A few decisions were easy but there is always the temptation to think that some of these cords and old floppy discs might be useful some day. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">The things they OK&#8217;d for recycling were:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>TV (This one is ready to die.)<\/li>\n<li>2 computer keyboards<\/li>\n<li>2 laptop computers (left over from kid\u2019s college days)<\/li>\n<li>1 desktop computer without a monitor (also left over from college days)<\/li>\n<li>9 used printer cartridges<\/li>\n<li>2 cell phones without chargers<\/li>\n<li>Solar powered\/crank radio that is no longer fixable.<\/li>\n<li>1 electric wine opener with chiller. (I have no idea how we got this but it\u2019s been sitting unopened and for over a year. We use an old fashioned cork screw to open wine and the refrigerator to chill it. Sounds like a pretty useless invention to me. (If you gave us this, it\u2019s a duplicate so I\u2019ll pass it on to that fellow who sits on the street corner with a bottle of wine. I\u2019m sure he\u2019d like to keep it chilled. \ud83d\ude42 )<\/li>\n<li>External DVD writer. This may be useful to someone but not me.<\/li>\n<li>Logitech computer camera (I upgraded.)<\/li>\n<li>Miscellaneous cords that befuddle me and the kids think we have enough similar cords to last longer than the gadgets they go to.<\/li>\n<li>1 unidentified remote.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>What I kept:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Monitor<\/li>\n<li>Hub to plug multiple computers into (I can\u2019t imagine using this but one son said I couldn\u2019t give it away.)<\/li>\n<li>Power strip (You can never have too many of these.)<\/li>\n<li>CD Walkman<\/li>\n<li>1 Mouse<\/li>\n<li>A whole bunch of cords and connectors that the kids say are probably important<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>What I learned:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol start=\"1\">\n<li>Call in the kids for advice.<\/li>\n<li>Staples will give you $2 for each used printer cartridge<\/li>\n<li>If you don\u2019t have the charger for older cell phones, they\u2019re not worth saving. Yes, you might find a charger with the right connector on E-Bay or the like, but it\u2019s a hassle.<\/li>\n<li>Although <a title=\"Gazelle\" href=\"http:\/\/www.gazelle.com\/\">Gazelle<\/a> \u00a0recycles many modern electronics \u00a0and pays you for it, most of my stuff was too old for them. So far <em>Best Buy<\/em> and <em>Staples<\/em> have been the best all-purpose place for electronics that I\u2019ve found.<\/li>\n<li>Nobody wants an electric wine opener with chiller.<\/li>\n<li>This stuff mystifies me.
