It\u2019s easy to become depressed and want to return hate with hate. But that doesn\u2019t solve anything.<\/p>\n<p>On my last blog post, <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.susanvogt.net\/blog\/365177-letting-go-of-trivial-judgments\/\">Let Go of Trivial Judgments<\/a><\/span>, I promised to move beyond trivial judgments to find constructive ways to channel justified anger into action. Following are 7 steps I recommend.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Let go of the trivial<\/strong> \u2013 to make room for what\u2019s important. DONE \u221a<\/li>\n<li><strong>Identify the top 2 issues<\/strong> that are worthy of your outrage. Let your outrage with evil motivate you. (Let others take care of the other issues. You are not in charge of the world.)<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.susanvogt.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/Days-365+54-Newspaper.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-2893\" src=\"http:\/\/www.susanvogt.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/Days-365+54-Newspaper-150x150.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"64\" height=\"64\" \/><\/a>Become informed.<\/strong> Check credible news sources. Read. Listen. Think. Learn how to recognize propaganda and news bias. Check <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/coolguides\/comments\/5q52tt\/fight_fake_news_updated_and_larger_guide_to\/\">here<\/a>, <span style=\"color: #000000;\">and<\/span> <a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.allsides.com\/topics\/fake-news\">here<\/a>,<\/span> <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">for resources or the classic fact checking sources of <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.snopes.com\/\">Snopes<\/a><\/span>, <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.propublica.org\/\">ProPublica<\/a><\/span>, <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.factcheck.org\/\">FactCheck.org<\/a><\/span>, <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.politifact.com\/\">PolitiFact<\/a><\/span>, or <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/sunlightfoundation.com\/\">The Sunlight Foundation<\/a><\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong>Listen deeply<\/strong> to the hurts and fears of the \u201cother.\u201d Try to understand, rather than to hate back. While you are listening include listening to your heart, body, and soul. For me, this means taking my frustrations to prayer. May God open my heart to fully understand and inspire me to discern positive, effective responses.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Strategize<\/strong>. Good intentions are not enough. Think of positive, specific, doable actions. (See <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1RrO9p4ekyL51isKLXlE6ACqUu_JoBss-\/view\">Will Grant<\/a><\/span>.) Consult others.\u00a0As <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pachamama.org\/engage\">The Pachamama Alliance<\/a><\/span>\u00a0says, \u201cTogether we are a genius.\u201d<\/li>\n<li><strong>Join with others<\/strong>. This multiplies your individual efforts and supports motivation.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Act.<\/strong> Prayer and penance are worthy actions but must be joined with concrete actions for change. The act of acting also relieves depression and feelings of helplessness.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.susanvogt.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Days-365-96-Uber-recycling-earth.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-4003\" src=\"http:\/\/www.susanvogt.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Days-365-96-Uber-recycling-earth-150x150.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"132\" height=\"132\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.susanvogt.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Days-365-96-Uber-recycling-earth-150x150.gif 150w, https:\/\/www.susanvogt.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Days-365-96-Uber-recycling-earth-300x300.gif 300w, https:\/\/www.susanvogt.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/Days-365-96-Uber-recycling-earth-1024x1024.gif 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 132px) 100vw, 132px\" \/><\/a>For example, I identified working for a sustainable environment and responding to the sexual abuse\/cover-up issue in the Catholic Church as my top two issues. (I also care about making health care affordable to all and many other social issues but I have limited time and energy so I had to choose what I knew most about and was in the best position to influence change.)<\/p>\n<p>Regarding environmental sustainability, I studied resource material and took training to lead workshops on this issue (<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pachamama.org\/engage\/awakening-the-dreamer\">Awakening the Dreamer<\/a><\/span> and <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pachamama.org\/engage\/awakening-the-dreamer\">Drawdown<\/a><\/span>). About a year ago I also intentionally sought out people who had a different political stance than I did and tried to understand their fears. I joined a team of local people to lead workshops on environmental sustainability, social justice, and spiritual fulfillment. It takes a lot of time. I can\u2019t do every thing, but I can do something.
