Homes for Misc. Stuff"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sorting through misc. stuff can be fraught with thorny decisions. True, I\u2019m not using it now, but maybe the next time we go camping we\u2019ll want that old cook stove? Or maybe our kids will want it? Or it has sentimental value. These can be tough \u201cfirst world lifestyle\u201d decisions. But\u2026once decided, corollary decisions arise &#8211; finding worthy homes. I don\u2019t want stuff people can use just going into the garbage and ending up in a landfill.<\/p>\n<p>Fortunately our neighborhood has been blessed with a plethora of vintage, charity, and second hand shops. There are 6 shops within a short walk of my home. I spent one afternoon just exploring each of them and noting their particular focus. This past week I dug deeper into our closets and started distributing stuff. Here&#8217;s the skinny on my success. (The failures will come in a future blog.)<a href=\"https:\/\/www.susanvogt.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Days-365233-Hidden-baby-stuff.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-7605\" src=\"https:\/\/www.susanvogt.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Days-365233-Hidden-baby-stuff-198x300.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"114\" height=\"173\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Baby Stuff:<\/strong> Since all four of our own children are grown and out of the home, why am I still keeping baby stuff? I took a potty chair, a portable highchair, and a Christening gown to <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/newhopecenter.com\/\">New Hope Pregnancy Center<\/a><\/span>.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.susanvogt.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Days-365233-Hidden-fancy-stuff.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-7608\" src=\"https:\/\/www.susanvogt.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Days-365233-Hidden-fancy-stuff-300x252.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"151\" height=\"127\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.susanvogt.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Days-365233-Hidden-fancy-stuff-300x252.gif 300w, https:\/\/www.susanvogt.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Days-365233-Hidden-fancy-stuff-768x646.gif 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 151px) 100vw, 151px\" \/><\/a>Fancy Grown-up Stuff:<\/strong> Moving on in age, not only do I not need baby stuff, I don\u2019t really care much about stylish stuff. Maybe it\u2019s Covid-19 keeping us all inside more. Maybe it\u2019s just that my taste has become simpler and more practical. So, I took some fancy purses, gloves, bracelets, and embroidered cloths to <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/curateddesigndecor\/\">Curated Design &amp; Decor<\/a><\/span>.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.susanvogt.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Days-365233-Hidden-camping-w-pop-up-tent.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-7610\" src=\"https:\/\/www.susanvogt.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Days-365233-Hidden-camping-w-pop-up-tent.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"166\" height=\"218\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<li><strong>Practical and Outdoor Stuff:<\/strong> Our basement storage room had a lot of camping gear (tents, stove, cooler, etc.) plus duplicate kitchen equipment, and outdoorsy hats. <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/ShopHalfHalf\/\">Half &amp; Half Antique Shop<\/a><\/span> took a few of these items but <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/theroostlatonia.com\/\">The Roost<\/a><\/span> and its companion shop, <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>Blondielocks &amp; the 3 Chairs<\/em><\/span> took everything else.\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<strong><em>Click to enlarge any photo.<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong> Stuff that shops don\u2019t want:<\/strong> I still had some sheets, pillow cases, Christmas mugs, Halloween pumpkins, and other misc. items that were not of interest to the neighborhood shops so I defaulted to <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/pickupplease.org\/about-vva\/\">Viet Vets<\/a><\/span>. It\u2019s not local but they do make local pick-ups and it\u2019s easy.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.susanvogt.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Days-365233-Hidden-pumpkins.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-7618\" src=\"https:\/\/www.susanvogt.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Days-365233-Hidden-pumpkins-194x300.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"83\" height=\"128\" \/><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.susanvogt.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Days-365233-Hidden-Viet-Vets-misc.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-7614\" src=\"https:\/\/www.susanvogt.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Days-365233-Hidden-Viet-Vets-misc-286x300.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"120\" height=\"126\" \/><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>BUT, what if I don\u2019t live in greater Cincinnati<\/strong>, much less Susan\u2019s neighborhood?
